Starting with the standard carb and exhaust updates. Its amazing how Yamaha still supports these old bikes with parts. I can order just about anything still for this bike, shipped to my house. I even splurged for new side covers that the previous owner gouged the crap out of.

Hi Garywi,

in the UK a manufacturer is responsible to provide parts back up, for machines that are officially supplied to us, for a minimum period of ten years after the supply of new machines has been stopped. This is usually arranged by the official dealer networks and is a shame that thes XT225 and XT250 models have only been sourced as a grey, or parallel imports to us.

I presume there are similar regulations that apply to the US?

Regards

From my automotive days, I think OEM's are required to provide service parts for 7 years after production ends.

I was hoping that was 10 years. I tend to run vehicles of all sorts for a long time. My 1998 van has 321k on the clock. Still runs well. laugh

Did Z1, 1 3/4 inch, painted exhaust and polished chrome. Painted grab bars. New intake bits, to fix idle issue. Blessed Yamaha still sells all this stuff. Bought junk seat to salvage seat pan for a Seat Concepts seat. My stock seat is pristine so I will save that. Took air box apart as previous owner drilled hole in the side panel. Added UNI filter.

That is a crusty seat poor thing must have been parked in the desert sun for years, perhaps east of LA, where ozone levels are still high.

While you have things apart, consider changing the fork tube oil and replacing the rubber front brake line with SS.

The aftermarket, re-man suppliers, and common parts between multiple cars will keep it going for a while longer.

Looking good Gary. A new seat isn't far off for me, mine is splitting at the seam down one side. Gaffer tape is containing it so far.

While replacing the 15 year old brake fluid today, I noticed under the front brake master cylinder cover, under the rubber diaphragm, the paint was all corroded and crumbly. Need to fix this to keep contaminants out of the new fluid.

I saw exactly the same sort of corrosion inside the brake reservoir cover of my 2006. I assumed that a previous owner had painted the inside of the cover, but perhaps not. After cleaning inside and out, I repainted the outside while it was in place.

If you haven't run into this before, be very careful not to drip any brake fluid on the plastic bits, as the stuff is toxic to many plastics.

Changed out left side engine cover. I could have just painted it, but it was pretty cheap to get it looking nice again.
