Just bought a one-owner, 2006, xt225 from a fellow in a neighboring town this past August. When I walked into his garage and laid eyes on this little bike I knew immediately that I'd found my bike! It was 11 years old with 433 miles on it. Learning to ride again and enjoying it immensely. Too cold and snowy here to ride much now. Can hardly wait for spring to put a bunch more miles on this bike!

Nice find! It's almost ready for its break-in valve adjustment at 600 miles.

Mornin'

what a great find.

Just to put that into perspective, I've reduced my mileage a lot, due to changing jobs a year ago but, even now, 433 miles would be my average per week on my XT225!

Once the temperatures have warmed up, and the chilling winds have eased, your in for a fabulous experience in riding a lightweight, gentle yet fun motorcycle. I always relate mine as being a mechanical version of a mining pit pony! Mucky, small but with plenty of stamina and plucky in character.

Regards

What a lucky find, or are they quite common over the pond.
After my last one was stolen/burnt out, I had a job to find another. I paid good money for a well used '95 model that needed a fair bit of work & money spending on it. It's all good now.

These bikes are quite happy & good fun in snow with some decent knobblies fitted.

Nice!! Some years back I bought a XT225 from a local fellow with, I believe it was, 179 miles on it. They seemed to be readily available at that time. But now a little used garage find like you came across is not all that common here in the states with XT225s.

Reggie and Paul and others across the pond rightly drool over late model XT225 finds like yours. Most places in the world these tough little bikes just don't show up for sale all that often, and when they do it's like Paul said -- they've been ridden long and hard and serious TLC and cash outlay is needed to put them back into shape.

So enjoy your XT, keep it in super shape, and if the day comes you ever decide to part with it (that shouldn't happen!) it'll no doubt command a higher price than what you paid for it!

Just lucky I think. I was looking for a Yamaha WR250R and a buddy ran across the XT225. I have another buddy with a XT250 so I knew they were sound bikes. Feel pretty lucky to have landed on this bike. Really wishing I could ride right now. Just finished a week of -40F weather. Today was the first nice day +23F, so I started the XT up and let it purr a bit, just to smell the exhaust was therapeutic!

Hi BJS,

just awoke to a heavy frost, with current temperature of -5C, so a bit of care's needed on the roads with the ice etc.

If you do decide to run your bike, in cold temperatures but not to ride it, it's good practise to let it run for a while, as a brief run will just leave condensation in the exhaust, which isn't a good thing. So let it get nice n warm, before stopping the engine.

It will also allow you extra therapeutic value time!

Regards

That blasted salt is what puts me off. I like to take um out for a warm up any half decent day over winter, but is it worth getting um caked in salt, then all the cleaning.

I stick each bike on the accumate one day a week to keep the battery charged & if I give um a warm up int garage I do as Reggie says, a good 15-20 mins warm up.

Do it like we did as kids before central heating came to the masses, Dad would get a fire going then us kids would take our school clothes downstairs & hold um in front of the fire 'til they stopped steaming, then we'd put um on. Same wit bike eh.

Hi Paul,

it's bloody nasty stuff and is rotting my bike away!

The salt is what stops me too. I'd much rather go for a short spin on a cold but sunny day, but I'll ride around the yard and practice my low speed balance if the roads are salty
