Hey all,

I just bought a 2007 XT225 yesterday, and am here at the recommendation of my buddy. Bike is in decent working order, with a small leak around the starter, and the left hand mirror mount was broken off by accident by the last owner.

Came with a few helmets, a set of gloves and a battery tender...all for $900.

The bike is a bit finicky when cold, not wanting to rev, but will start and idle just fine. I'll be setting it aside for a few weeks while I'm working, but am looking forward to commuting back and forth on it around town, and maybe hitting some fire roads too!

Looking forward to learning about the bike from the forum here!

Welcome Fergie. Nice to have another Arizona rider join the group. What part of northern Arizona are you in? Once you get your XT225 tweaked to your liking, you'll find it a great bike, ideally suited to forest roads and fire trails, as well as getting around town. Whatever questions you have, ask away. Anything you need help with XT wise you'll find here. Enjoy your XT and this site for all they're worth, and ride safely!..

Welcome!

All of what you speak of is carb related. Before you start, ask a few questions here, and several people will help you get started.

Welcome!

The cold start issues are common and usually easy to resolve.

Welcome to the site as a new USER. Enjoy and ride safely.

The wrinkles with the bike aren't serious. Many here have been down that road and will offer solutions.

As for the CV carb, it's old school 4 stroke technology. Very reliable but with some compromises. The cylinder is air cooled and much of that heat transfers to the carb body. As the carb and fuel heat up, the mixture will richen up significantly. Yamaha had to jet the carb very lean when cold to allow a proper mixture when the bike is fully warm. This has led to cold starting difficulties. It also varies by bike too. Usually this can be solved by increasing the idle mixture slightly (via idle screw). Fuel delivery circuits in that carb aren't isolated but additive. It's just the influence of the idle circuit becomes proportionality smaller as the throttle is opened and the main circuit takes over. So increasing mixture in the pilot circuit will richen the entire range. Very very small at WOT, however. To the point of no concern usually.

Post this over in Bike Problems if you like.

Az4x4: I'm up in Flagstaff. I spent a good bit of time in the Round Valley area as I have family in Clifton/Morenci.

I appreciate the kind welcome and the advice on the carb. I live at 7000' ASL and have a love/hate relationship w carbs...used to have a 78 GS750 that was a pain at this altitude.

I'll certainly be looking in to fixing the issue soon, but it'll have to wait until I am done w my Master's Program, or at least until I am in the same town as the bike.

Thanks again!

Nice to have family in the state. I find it increasingly rare to meet other native Arizonans, especially in large cities. However with family in the Clifton/Morenci area it may be that you call Arizona your home state by birth as well. Whether that's the case or not it's great having you here. We look forward to hearing from you often as you detail your XT biking experiences and anything else you'd like to share!..
