Replaced a broken rear spoke and replaced the 12 year old original tires with Bridgestone's TW302, and TW301. They are smooth and and with lots of grip on the road. I will be riding off road tomorrow, will let you know how they perform. Next upgrade is a Clarke tank that is enroute.

Good man. These old school XT's are fun rides, a lot more so than many bigger more expensive bikes. They have their limits of course, but those limits provide incredibly flexibility making these a near ideal all purpose take you just about anywhere and get you back again simple machine!..

Got back to my place in Heber Thursday afternoon after a long week of getting stuff done in the hot Valley. Spent quality time with my girlfriend, so the trip was definitely worthwhile. She'll be here this coming Wednesday in her new motorhome. We'll take it out camping for a few days while the weather's still nice. I'll have my XT along so we'll see about getting her booted up and riding. Should be fun!

In the meantime I tweaked the 3 turn mod on my bike to make sure it was correctly set. Turns out it was set at less than 2 turns, which apparently worked well for the original owner in Pennsylvania. I changed that setting to three full turns out and it made a real difference. Throttle response improved, power is consistent from little throttle to full throttle, and I'm more than happy with the way it's now running. Should have checked it earlier, but too many things to do made it easy to shelve that task for another day.

Next thing is to cut three holes in the air box per AlexD's instructions and plug them with removable caps for whenever greater air flow is needed. At 6500 to 7500 feet in this area I doubt I'll need them uncapped. But at higher elevations next spring and summer when we're traveling they'll prove handy..

I agree! they are awesome and easy to handle. I am going to ride with a friend who has a quad and knows the area. Will post pics tomorrow night. Good gouge on the air box mod and I need to get on the carb and do the 3 turn mod as well. Im hooked!

Hi Guys n Gals,

well Team Bjerg had yet another replacement tyre, over the weekend. Not due to it being damaged but just worn out!

WhenI turn up at my mates garage to order my tyres, he just shakes his head and says it can't be time for another one!

Regards

Don't last long on these lil rascals do they Reggie? I get 2 - 3k miles out of a rear.

Not a lot when I get 6- 7k miles out of a rear on my 1050 Trumpet but works out about same cost per mile I s'pose.

Hi Paul,

I get around 9,000 miles on my Serow tyres, so I'm quite happy with that.

I'd be over't moon with that Reggie but big gaps mean little rubber 'tween um.

I can see the difference after a 100 mile ride.
