New member here. Will probably be asking questions. Will be picking up my new to me 2006 XT225 with 1600 miles on Monday. I will be looking for a right side cover that goes over the battery.
It is missing. And I think they are discontinued.
Will be too cold to ride it. Will be in upper teens here in western Pa.
How do you post pictures on here?

Welcome!

The side covers have become hard to come by. I think someone was 3D printing them, a search here should find them. Mid teens is certainly too cold for me to ride.

You need a hosting service to post pictures, Imgur seems to be the most popular free service. I use smugmug which isn't' free, but I can get you a discount code if you're interested.

Welcome to the group, Vaughn. Nice find on the '06 XT225! Best of luck finding the right side battery cover you're looking for. They are no longer produced, haven't been for a long time, but you come across one now and again on eBay so keep your eye on the XT225 parts listings.

I'm in the same "too cold to ride" boat you are. Although it's not been bad the last few days. Nudging the 50's so I can't complain, not like a week or so ago with heavy snow and bitter wind.

Posting photos requires a photo hosting service. A lot of us use IMGUR, a top notch free hosting service you can set up an account with in just moments. Once your account is active simply upload any photos you want to your account page, then click the photo you want to display here and it'll open the thumbnail to a page where the full photo is displayed. On that page, to the right of the photo are a number of link buttons you can choose. The 5th one down the list is "BBCode". Click the blue "Copy" button next to 'BBCode', then paste that link here in the post you're composing and wallahhhhh!! - done deal!

Enjoy the site for all it's worth and ride safely!!..

Welcome. Yes the sidecovers are difficult yo find, and expensive when you do find them. Fortunately the bike can be ridden without them while you wait on something to show up. Check eBay often. You will not likely find one that matches your bike though.

I'm down here in south central AZ, where it is perfect riding weather. I just got my bike all put back together and and going for a ride today.

I tried to use Imgur for pictures, but was unable to sign up, because I cannot receive text messages, something they require (I use a '90s style flip phone) So I decided to go with Flickr. So far it seems to work fine, and the base version is free.

The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

Got my 2006 xt225 today. Put 14 miles on it with temps in the 30’s
Going to get those DMO oversized pegs.
Size 13 is a little big for the stock pegs.
Will keep looking for battery cover
Will be getting rack and pannier supports.
Where is the factory tool kit kept
I forgot to ask the guy
No owners manual either.
Bike runs good except is hard to start in this cold weather.
Bike has more sense than I do.

sounds like your tool kit is missing (scroll down for a pic of the stock one);

if you find pannier supports, please share where here. i've been looking for those (as opposed to hard case mounts)...

welcome to the fun!

Good for you, Vaughn. Glad you've got your bike. Riding when it's below freezing isn't fun. I don't get out on two wheels unless it's 50* or better and the wind isn't blowing. Another few weeks and better riding weather should be with us.

The tool kit is kept on the left side of the bike in a plastic tool container next to the rear wheel. Look and you'll find it. Hopefully the Yamaha tool kit is still in it. If not you can put together some essentials and make your own kit.

Owners manuals in PDF format are available to download on line. Do a Google search for 'XT225 owners manual' and you'll find a number of sources.

Best of luck sourcing the battery cover you're looking for, and of course, ride safely!..

You can get pannier supports here https://www.happy-trail.com/amfinder?find=2001-yamaha-xt-225-580978&sid=tGaONMPiOc The SU model is for hard panniers, the SL model is for soft panniers, and can be used with just about any kind of soft luggage including nylon and leather.

I use this rack https://www.amazon.com/Luggage-Carrier-Utility-Holder-Powdercoat/dp/B0147OU6GM I like it because it is flat instead of tubular. I have an aluminum basket bolted to it. You can also fit a milk crate on it. And extensions can be welded or bolted onto to it to carry larger loads.

The stock took kit is pretty much worthless, though it does contain the right size spark plug socket and a JIS screwdriver. I have had over 50 bikes in my life, and have a box full of oem tool kits from them, some never even opened. I always put together my own took kits with real tools.

I have both an owners manual and service manual downloaded from online in PDF format. I got them many years ago. I don't know if you can still find them or not. If not, try eBay. I doubt even Yamaha still has these. When I bought one of my XTs, the seller had downloaded the service manual, and printed the whole thing, and put it in a three ring binder. He must have used $100 worth of printer ink.

The above is my opinion. Your mileage may vary.
