More Footpegs Options?

More Footpegs Options? - 10/09/16 03:43 PM

Are there any other XT225 footpeg options out there for people who cannot afford the DMO ones? After exchange, shipping, taxes, etc. I am looking at 100 bucks for DMO footpegs, which I simply cannot afford.

I've tried ebay, and there are a lot of footpegs on there, but there's no way of knowing if they are compatible. I found some that fit the XT250 but not the 225. What's the difference? Why would Yamaha build specific pegs for the 225? Or does the XT225 share pegs with any other models?

I'm not trying to take anything away from the DMO pegs. I am sure they are awesome. Some of us just can't afford to spend 100 bucks on pegs.

Your best bet is probably the weld-on type pegs extensions.

I second peejman's suggestion. The problem is the right-hand peg which is weirdly welded together, perhaps so they (Yamaha) could re-use an existing peg mount. All the aftermarket Ebay offerings I came across were mirror images; that bumps the right peg out maybe 40mm, enough that I think your right foot would no longer be aligned well with the rear brake pedal. Perhaps the brake pedal could be modified/replaced to fix the situation but then.. more expense right?

The right peg has that U shape for the kick starter that makes it almost impossible to fit most pegs on.The TTR225 oddly enough doesn't have the kick start option and you can get pegs that fit the DR250,350 or 650 really cheap($14.89) that fit.I would recommend trying to find some of the DMO's used.I am planning to change out mine to the TTR mounts(with the rear wheel, shifter and brake pedal)eventually and will be selling my DMO's.I actually have all the parts for the conversion but lack the time to get it done.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to research that. I don't weld, so I would have to factor that into the cost.

Thanks for the explanation. If I was to do this, I'd probably be inclined to just bend the break pedal 40mm, but I'd rather not implement such a kludge.

Very interesting. So it seems I could simply buy the TTR mount(s) and then this would open up a huge range of footpeg options for me. I can get the TTR mounts for $50CAD (shipped) and then order $15 footpegs and still save some money and end up with way more options in the future. It is still more than I want to spend, but the future flexibility might be worth it.

The question is; do all TTR225 mounts fit all XT225 bikes, or is there a specific year of TTR225 mounts that I need for my 06 XT ?

You also need the TTR shifter http://www.xt225.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=18713&page=1 These are XT footpegs from Japan without the kickstart option. http://www.xt225.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=57205 This is what someone did to get aftermarket pegs on but he could have just used the TTR parts. http://www.off-road.com/dirtbike/project...rt-3-52084.html ------ https://fastwayperformance.com/footpegs/footpeg-products.html/?find=2004-yamaha-tt-r225-3360613 Sorry you asked yet?

Since my financial situation has improved recently, I went ahead and bought the DMO pegs from Bill.

I only installed them just an hour ago, but all I can say is they are awesome. I should have scraped the money together long ago and made this purchase.

Bill makes an excellent product. He is also a sponsor for this site and has been for some years now. His products are also made in the USA. Thanks for your support and + review. Every little bit helps.

I was concerned that they might take some getting used to since they really are quite a bit wider and longer than the stock pegs.

It was a pleasant surprise when I rode to work this morning and noticed basically no different with regard to braking and shifting, all the while my feet felt much more "planted".

Fantastic product!

Glad to hear that you had a positive experience with Bill's pegs. There are a bunch of "compatible" pegs listed on Amazon.com, but many of them have negative reviews regarding fit and quality. You get what you pay for.

This is a mod that I have been considering, but I think I would have to ride an XT with the longer pegs to see if they made enough of a difference for my needs. I have relatively small feet (US 8.5/Euro 43), and haven't found the OEM pegs too small, but I have no basis for comparison.

Bill's pegs are just excellent. And the wideness as well as the longness adds to your comfort/control.

Yes the width is far more of a benefit than the length, and all those extra sawtooth grippers really bite into your boot soles. My feet are far less likely to slip off these pegs during serious off road action.

Once you finally pony up and buy the DMO pegs (took me 9 months), you see why they cost so much. Pretty involved shapes.

Once you stand up on them, you don't regret paying the money. Haven't actually tried on dirt yet, but, it's like day and night. And standing is pretty important in the dirt with this bike's limited suspension travel. (30mm bar risers also help!)

* Big solid flat platform.

* You can stand on the balls of you feet for better riding if you want; I couldn't easily with the stock pegs.

* You can stand a bit farther back, where the tank is narrower, which is a major plus.

* The transition from sitting to standing is just easier.

On the negative side of the equation:

* One side (the left I think) doesn't fold up as much as it could, the pedal hits the upper pedal bracket mounting bolt. Planning to mention this to the maker. Filing away some peg helps a little; a different bolt might also; it looks like a design change could fix this...

* Some folks report trouble getting a really big boot under the shifter.

* The brake pedal may feel a tad higher.

Bottom line: Bill's foot pegs are simply better than the factory pegs in every way. More comfort. More control. Less fatigue..

Here is a link to a footpeg offered on amazon.ca. I'm sure you will find them on the american site if you look hard enough. If not, they might ship it to the US.

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00RUQ9V8O/?col...lv_ov_lig_dp_it

They charge 67$ CAD with free shipping. That's under 52$ USD today and they have good reviews.

Those will not fit the XT225. On the XT225, one side is significantly different than the other, as seen here http://www.xt225.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=74345&#Post74345

The fact that the Amazon listing includes both the XT225 and the XT250 in the list of models, shows that the seller is in error. Footpegs that are compatible with the XT250 are not compatible with the XT225.

EDIT: Looks like one buyer already realized it and gave one star:

And yet another order for Bill, I'm sure I'll be extremely happy with the results.

Stupidly hit Amazon without checking, got some lovely stainless steel pegs, and the lying jerks even specifically listed the 2001-2007 XT225 as if they knew what they were talking about. Oh well, sending them back, and Amazon eats the freight as penalty for selling from liars.
