Could someone give me the simple, step by step directions for removing my gas tank? Including the side panels...

I'd like to have a good idea of how this is done in preparation for checking and settings my valves. (Which I know how to do..
TIA

Denny, remove the side panels, remove the seat, shut off the petcock and unhook the gas line, take the bolt out of the back of the tank that ties it to the frame, then slip the tank backwards until it clears the rubber bumpers it fits into up front and set it aside..

Az4x4 that is for a 225. The 250 is a little more complicated because of the tank cover.
Denny I wish I could be more help, but I've only taken the tank off a 250 once and that was 5 years ago. I remember you have to unbolt the covers under the front of the tank and that I thought it was a real pain and why did Yamaha make it so complicated.
Hopefully some one with a 250 will chime in with the step by step that you were asking for.

If I remember correct the 250 has a bolt at the front too. It is on the steel tank under the plastic covers.

Sorry 'bout that. Forgot he has a 250, not a 225. Taking the tank off my XT250, as I recall, was a pain. It's been long enough ago I don't remember everything involved, just that it wasn't easy. After working with that heavier more complicated bike awhile, as nice as it was, it was a relief to see it go to a new home and get back to an XT225 again..

I haven't checked the valves on mine yet. I'll be curious if your's are out of spec. Sorry I'm no help.
