i have done the 3 screw mod and 42.5 jet, this bike is hard to start when cold,, did the turn off gas run till dry thing also,,, but,,, i found out if i pull the choke cable out of the socket on the carb which must pull the choke out farther, the bike starts right up no matter how cold, thoughtss, its a pain to put the cable back in the rubber grommet,,,,2007 xt 225, 3 screw mod and z1 mod,,

I just did the Z1 mod and the 127.5 main jet and 2 turns out on my fuel screw (stock 140 jet) and now I don't have to run the bike for 3 or 4 minutes before I can start riding! My fuel screw was out almost 3 1/2 turns (from the factory. I'd try the 2-turn setting. . . you didn't say how many turns out the fuel screw was before you adjusted it!
Be mindful that a DOUBLING in velocity results in a QUADRUPLING of any impact force.

Magoo... Your stock main jet was a 140?  It should have been a 125 main. They come from the factory lean to meet EPA regulations. Or was that a typo, and you were talking about your pilot jet being the stock 40....

STOCK WAS 2 TURNS, I AM AT 3 NOW TRIED UP TO 4 DOWN TO 1 , 2.5-3 IS BEST FOR IDLING

mine was hard starting and running poorly with the 42.5 pilot jet also.
I tried 1 turn-3 turns, way too much fuel on that circuit with the stock airbox and filter, and modded exhaust.
I went back to 40 pilot and its fine at 2.5 turns.
new to the xt225, but loving it

I'll second that-mine was disconnected and from the look of the grease, had never been. Take off the tank, pull back the rubber cover protecting the coupler-easy fix, if that's the problem
Which is more fun-the XT in the dirt or the XL in the twisties?

I finally took the tank off and yes the choke cable is not connected together. starts now even at 15 below... thanks for the tip
